The Smartcore system heats the stick from inside the blend rather than with a blade pressed into it, so the draw stays even from the first pull to the last rather than tapering off toward the end the way blade-heated sessions sometimes do. A session runs to roughly 6 minutes or 14 puffs before it shuts off on its own.

In the hand the Prime body is heavier and more substantial than the ILUMA ONE, at 171 g, and the Sky Blue finish on this WE edition has a soft, slightly matte coating rather than a glossy shell, which shows fingerprints less and grips better than a polished surface. There is no blade to clean and no ash to tip out afterwards, so the between-session upkeep is closer to charging a phone than to maintaining a lighter.

Who reaches for this edition

This is mainly bought by two kinds of customer. The first has already been through an ILUMA ONE or an earlier IQOS device and wants the Prime's bigger 2380 mAh battery and 20 uses a charge, so they are not reaching for a cable mid-afternoon. The second is buying the WE Limited Edition specifically for the Sky Blue colourway, which is not sold as a standard Prime finish and will not necessarily be restocked once it sells through.

Setting it up with TEREA sticks

The box holds the holder, a charging dock, a USB-C cable, a cleaning tool and a user guide. Charge the dock fully first, which takes around 2 hours 15 minutes from empty, then dock the holder to top it up between uses. Slide a TEREA stick into the holder, wait for the light to signal it has reached temperature, and draw as you would from a cigarette; the device will end the session automatically once the stick is spent.

This only works with TEREA sticks. If you are coming from HEETS or another heated-tobacco brand, factor in that you will need to switch your stick supply over as well as the device.

The trade-off worth knowing before you order

The holder is good for 2 consecutive sessions before it needs to go back on the charging dock, even though the dock itself is rated for 20 uses across a day. That is fine if you are mostly at a desk or in a car where the dock is nearby, but it means a long stretch away from both dock and a USB-C power source will leave you without a third session until you can recharge. Anyone used to a device with a self-contained charging case built into the holder will notice the difference straightaway.
